I know it seems like I'm averaging one blog post a month, but I promise you I'm TRYING to be better.
The harsh California Winter has left me motivated only enough to continue posting three videos a week on my YouTube Channel, and that, in and of itself, is a JOB.
But I anticipate that with the gentle warmth of the Spring season swiftly approaching, I'm sure I'll feel all the more inspired to put my thoughts down on paper...screen.
The sun is coming out which means we've got endless activities that can enhance our femininity and bring us closer to nature and the world around us. (Including, but not limited to bees/wasps/yellow jackets....consider yourself warned.) But more importantly, Spring is a time to press the reset button on the things in our life that we want to change.
It's a period of regrowth, new birth, and deciding what we want to leave behind in Winter.
So, here are some fun and feminine activities to consider trying during this Spring Season.
1) Gardening!
As I've mentioned countless times before, I DO NOT have the green thumb that God gifted my mother with. However, I'm determined to start a garden this Spring and keep it alive for as long as humanly possible. As I've said, gardening is one of the most feminine activities you can partake in. It encourages growing and nurturing something that is your own, and taking care of it throughout its life. They're absolutely gorgeous to look at, and can be a place of solace and reflection when you need to be by yourself.
You can plant flower gardens or vegetable gardens, and experience the satisfaction of eating food that you grew yourself. AND that you know isn't plastered in pesticides and Lord knows what else.
Gardening has always seemed to me like a fun and ladylike activity, and I'm excited to try it out this year!
2) Hikes and Walks
The best part about Spring, is the ability to GO OUTSIDE. If you struggle with allergies, I feel for you. But please try out some Zyrtec or Claritin D because you NEED to feel the warmth of the sun on your back while you hike through the mountains this Spring. Something about hiking always gives me a brand new perspective on life. It helps me forgive and forget the things and people who hurt me, the grudges I've held on to, and allows me to recognize that I am but a small piece, in this gargantuan world.
I'm fortunate to live in an area where there are stunning hikes around every corner, but if you don't, take a day trip out to the mountainside! You won't regret taking a moment to be one with nature and feel the immense gratitude that washes over you when standing at the tip of a mountain.
This summer, Cain and I will be heading back to Colorado and will be going to the Rocky Mountain National park! I can't wait.
3) Baking!
When I think of Spring, I, immediately think of apple crisps, strawberry cakes, lemon cookies and really any fruity or floral baked good I can get my hands on. I LOVE baking. And I get majority of my recipes off of Pinterest. But this Spring, I'm going to take a gander at some of my mom's old, vintage cookbooks, and make some recipes from them!
We have so many cookbooks, from Julia Child's ICONIC "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" to some truly Southern, down home recipe books. So I can't wait to give those a try.
4) Tea Parties
I made a post on Instagram a few days ago talking about my love for tea parties, and they truly are a very feminine activity to participate in. I grew up going to Tea Parties at my church, and my high school and even celebrated my 21st birthday at a Tea House with my best friend!
Now, before you go getting all overwhelmed, you don't have to throw a tea party yourself. But you can search to find where the nearest Tea House or Tea Room is near you! Invite your best friend, wear dresses, gloves, and hats and make a day of it! If you're anything like me, you'll love the delicious finger sandwiches and the ambience of feeling like Anne Hathaway in Princess Diaries (yes my Anne Hathaway obsession continues).
5) Yoga/Meditation
Whenever the sun comes out, I immediately find myself in my backyard, on the grass stretching and doing the *very few* yoga poses that I know. I'll also go outside to say the Rosary, or just sit in the sun in silence for a few minutes.
10 minutes of meditation a day can drastically change your mood, and it helps you to stop, reflect, and pause from the "go go go" lifestyle that we all live.
Where I live, there are yoga classes on the beach, AND sporting goods stores even have free Yoga classes on Saturdays. There's silent disco yoga in big parks and so much more. Check out what your city has going on and I'm sure you'll find plenty opportunities to experience mindfulness this Spring!
I hope you try out some of these activities with me this Spring! If you do, snap a pic! And hashtag #ffspring, so I can see what feminine activities everyone is getting into.
