20 Fall Date Ideas to Keep the Romance Alive

Updated: Nov 2, 2023

There's something so cozy and romantic about autumn. The weather cooling down, the leaves turning shades of bright auburn and marigold. Cozying up by a fireplace with an apple cider donut and a pumpkin spice latte in hand. It's all so magical!

There are so many fun and romantic things to do and so many ways to connect with your partner in this season. Whether you're staying in for a spooky movie night, or heading to a pumpkin patch! This list will give you all of the options for how to make the most of this time.

Go Apple Picking

Going to Apple Hill in Placerville, CA is my favorite thing to do during fall. Not only is it so much fun to see all of the beautiful fall colors, but I look forward to eating the apple cider donuts, cakes and pies every year!

Pasta Night

We make homemade pasta throughout the year, but it's especially cozy and romantic in the fall when we eat fresh pasta by candlelight. I follow this recipe for perfect pasta every time.

Outdoor Concert

With the weather cooling down, an outdoor concert is the perfect place to cozy up with blankets on a lawn while you enjoy live music. This year has been a live music year for us, and it has been so much fun being around other people, listening to our favorite artists, and snuggling up under the stars!

Movies Under the Stars

Last year, our city put on "movies under the stars" in October, and Cain took me to

see Beetlejuice for the first time. It was a great way for us to do something fun, eat some popcorn and laugh our way through the film.

Go on a Misty Hike

Where we live gets particularly foggy year round, but there's something about going for a hike in the fog in October that feels extra romantic (and spooky). Pick a trail you know well and enjoy the mist on your face and chill in the air together.

Try a New Restaurant

It can be easy to fall into the cycle of the same 4 places you always order take out from or go to for birthday and anniversary dinners. Switch it up by finding a new restaurant to try! On a whim last week, my husband and I decided to try a new place a few towns over and we both agreed it's our new favorite spot. This will also be a fun way to try new seasonal recipes!

Go to a College Football Game

I'm not a sports girl by any means, but even I can admit that there's something so nostalgic about going to a college football game. The electricity, the excitement, the youth! Being on a college campus always thrills me and takes me back to some of my happiest days. And being there with my husband feels extra special.

Go on an Autumn Foliage Inspired Bike Ride

Bike rides are not only for spring and summer. An autumn inspired ride through a park is one of the most romantic dates you can do! Take a look at all of the changing leaves, feel the crisp air on your face- there's nothing quite like it.

Go to a Harvest Festival

Growing up, the Harvest Festival was THE place to be at the start of the school year. This was where you found out who was dating who, you got to see your crush, hang out with your friends, and pretend like it was still summer for a little bit longer. As an adult, the Harvest Festival doesn't stray too far from that, as it is such a romantic setting for a date with your partner. Cozy up on the ferris wheel (if you're brave enough), and drink hot toddy's while listening to bluegrass tunes.

Game Night with Friends

We absolutely love game nights with our friends. It's a great opportunity to connect not only with your partner but with your community. Everyone makes a dish to bring and we have so much fun drinking wine by the candlelight, eating food made with love and playing our favorite games.

Rent a Cabin for the Weekend

There's something about renting a cabin that is so romantic no matter which season you're in. Fall brings the cozy camping vibes and the perfect backdrop to a romantic weekend getaway. Stay in and do puzzles, play board games and watch movies. Or head out and explore a new town. You'll feel like you're in a Hallmark movie either way.

Go to the Pumpkin Patch

This one is pretty obvious, but just because it's basic doesn't make it any less enjoyable. Picking out pumpkins at your local pumpkin patch is such a fun and easy way to ring in the autumn season.

Visit a Cozy Small Town

This is a sure fire way to find a place that feels like Stars Hollow. There are so many little towns we never go to or hear about, but that have the coziest decorations up for every season. Find a small town in your area to explore and live out your Rory and Jess (team Jess forever) dreams.

Have a Beach Bonfire

I love a cozy and chilly beach bonfire. Where we live, the beach is always cold so it feels like autumn all year round, but bonfires do not have to be saved for summer alone! Cozy up by the fire and enjoy a romantic evening on the water. We had so much fun doing this a few years ago, which I added in my Fall YouTube video.

Pumpkin Carving

Even if you're awful at carving pumpkins, (like I am), it can be so much fun to try something new and youthful together! This can often be looked at as an activity for kids, but I think it's a great way to have some fun and express yourself creatively. Put some hot apple cider on the stove and get to carving!

Build a Fort in Your House

We did this last year for my niece, and it was just as magical for us as it was for her. Sometimes doing things that are meant for kids is a great way to let joy, awe and wonder into your relationship.

Have a Fall Picnic

Set up a picnic with autumn treats! Pumpkin pie, a charcuterie board and warm drinks on a cozy plaid blanket that's perfect for the season.

Go Wine Tasting

Wine tasting is so much more fun in the fall when you're not in the sweltering heat. Something about wineries always makes me want to wear knee-high boots and a fall hat. There's something so sophisticated about wine tasting that is so enjoyable to do with a partner.

See a Broadway Show

As the weather cools off, it's the perfect time to take in a show! Check your local city for productions to see and make a date night out of it! It can be so much fun to spend a day in the city watching an incredible show and enjoying a night cap afterwards while you discuss all things thespian!

I hope you enjoyed this list! And you'll invest some time into these autumn activities this year!
