10 Micro Habits to Change for Spring

Well friends, we've made it. Spring is here and my excitement cannot be contained. If you're like me, and you also enjoy living seasonally, this time in the days leading up to the Spring season is great to look at our habits and see what we can shift to be more in alignment with the world around us.

Small things like switching from wearing darker colors to pastels, or changing up your hairstyle, can help you feel more like a walking representation of Springtime.

Here are 10 micro habits to change to welcome Spring.

Night Shower → Morning Shower

If you're anything like me, you too love an evening shower. A way to wash off the day before bed and enter your sheets with a fresh body. Sometimes, I even enjoy showering in candlelight to make it extra special and romantic. But I've noticed in the last few days how I've naturally transitioned to showering in the morning. There's something about waking up to bright blue skies and birds chirping that just makes you want to really get ready for the day. Shower, shampoo & conditioner included. And heck, some days you can shower twice if you want! Morning and night. But as the Fall and Winter months are known for being cozy, Spring is known for being fresh, bright, and new. And showering in the morning is a great way to kick off your day with that fresh, Spring feeling.

Chai Latte → Matcha Latte

Y'all know that my favorite Fall drink is a chai latte with oat milk (and often) a few pumps of pumpkin syrup. Or hot chocolate with homemade whipped cream in the Winter. Both of which are rich, delicious and oh so comforting. But to lighten it up in the Spring, I like to switch to more fruity, floral and earthy beverages - and matcha fits the bill. Nevermind the fact that I'm yet to have a matcha that doesn't exclusively taste like grass. The vibes are as Springy as it gets. My goal for Spring 2025? Find a matcha that doesn't make me feel like a grazing cow.

Straightened Hair → Natural Hair

Spring feels like the perfect season to switch from a bi-weekly press, to just enjoying your natural, God-given curls. For many of us, our hair can start to feel dry and brittle in the Winter, and needs more tlc, protection and consistency. Plus, Winter just feels like a sleek, straight hair season, right? But when Spring comes along, I always want to switch up my look and start rocking the natural. Mostly because I love being able to smell like my favorite shampoo. As Spring represents all things nature, rebirth and growth - this is the perfect time to showcase your natural beauty.

Workouts Indoors → Workouts Outdoors

This is the perfect time of year to start transitioning from indoor workouts, to incorporating more time exercising outdoors. You don't have to take your weights and jump rope outside, in fact you don't need any equipment at all! This is the season for hiking, biking, going for long walks and just being outdoors. I've been known to bring my laptop outside to do an online yoga class or two. You can make your outdoor workouts more fun by finding hike locations you never knew about, paying more attention to the birds singing, or looking for specific colors that appear in nature. The fresh air feels so good, and something about being outdoors truly revitalizes the soul.

Dark Nails → Springy Nails

For those of us who enjoy getting our nails done every once in a while, I feel like this one is a given. I've been saving nail inspo to my Pinterest board for a few weeks now, and getting excited about what designs to try. Winter is the season for deep maroons, mauves, oranges, etc. While Spring is the time to have fun with floral designs, polka dots, pastels, and plaid styles. I can't wait for my next nail appointment so I can update my nails to match the Springy vibes outside.

Pants →Skirts

Winter is naturally a time to be more bundled up, wear more layers, and focus on warmth in addition to aesthetic. But now that Spring is arriving, switching from long pants, to flowy skirts is going to be the name of my game. I love skirts in the Spring because they bring such a naturally feminine touch to your wardrobe or outfit. I've said it before, I'll say it again: they're also far more comfortable than pants. Since it's only Spring and not quite sandal weather yet, you can pair your skirts with knee high boots, cowboy boots, sneakers, or flats and it will always be a good look. Pair it with a flowy pastel top or cardigan and you are ready for Spring!

Hearty Soups → Fresh Salads

I have thoroughly enjoyed soup season this year. I've made everything from black bean soup, broccoli cheddar soup, chicken noodle soup, and more. I live for a hearty meal in the Fall and Winter season. Give me all the pasta, risotto, mashed potatoes and everything warm. In the Spring, however, I naturally move towards eating more greens like kale, chard, arugula and spinach. I love creating beautiful salads that are nutritious and filling. Just because it's Spring, that doesn't mean that I'm suddenly less hungry. So my salads always have a lot going on. I usually add a protein, lots of colors and fresh veg, something crunchy, something sweet, and a delicious homemade dressing. Yum!

Windows Closed → Windows Open

Another easy swap I love, is going from keeping my windows closed all Winter long, to opening them up every morning. I love letting in the fresh air, listening to the birds sing their songs, and allowing the sunlight to rest gently on my bed. Since Spring cleaning is top priority this season, opening the windows and allowing fresh air to come in is a great way to ensure that your home always smells good, feels fresh, and allows stagnant energy to move through. Add "open windows" to your daily morning routine, and it will bring so much joy and brightness to your day.

Candles → Diffusers

I have to admit, I'm not the biggest candle fan. I love the idea of candles, but in reality - the smell is often too intense for me and I usually end up getting a headache if a candle is lit for too long in my presence. But candles are such a cozy and warm addition to the ambiance of your home in the colder months. I wish I could indulge in some Pumpkin Spice Latte scented candle from Bath & Body works, but alas, I can not. Which is why I love the Spring season when diffusers make their appearance. I love creating various essential oil blends that feel and smell like Spring. Geranium, lemon & lavender are some of my favorite scents. But the options are endless. You could incorporate citrus scents like orange and lime. Or keep it earthy with frankincense. Either way, diffusers are a great way to transition from Winter to Spring.

Full Beat → Spring Glow

Spring is also a great time to transition from a full face of makeup, to a more gentle, soft, and dewy look. Swap out heavy foundations and eyeshadows for tinted moisturizers and bare lids. Instead of focusing on makeup, switch your focus to finding the perfect glowy skincare routine, so your natural beauty can really shine. A little concealer, a peachy blush, mascara and the perfect pink lip combo are all you need this Spring!

These small habits will help you feel more intentional about welcoming in a new season, and will encourage you to celebrate the newness of Spring in other aspects of your life as well. Whether it's opting for a walk to your local grocery store, instead of driving. Or choosing to host dinner outdoors instead of inside; Spring is a time to rejoice in the promise of new. And it's definitely my new favorite season.

I feel you about the candles, I am into essentials oils these times, it's also healthier. I am in love with the trees coming back to life, and the smell of spring <3 That's what i am living for ! And also start to refresh my garden, to prepare the soil and make it clean for the plantations.

I love this Felicia! I've definitely switched my shower routine already. Waking upto a brighter morning does make me feel happier and peppy. And a recent move from NJ to TX made me want to be outside more often as it is much warmer here, so may walks have been had 😊. Thanks for the inspiration for the others! I think I'll get the nails done tonight! Happy spring! ❤️
